Visions of the future?

Our collections aren't all about the past—these concept drawings and designs are all about the future.

I was browsing through our photo collections this week and can across these gems. They’re concept drawings from the British Railways Research department and show a 1970s vision of stations, high speed trains and goods handling depots of the future.

We don’t have the original drawings, but have slides of the images and that’s why they’re part of the photography collection. We’re trying to get more of our digitised photographs online, but can now browse some of our digitised collections here.
