Looking for luggage

My blog posts so far have been about how we're using our collection to bring Station Hall to life. Now we need your help.

We’re asking people to donate old suitcases and trunks for us to use as props in Station Hall. Here are some of the items we’ve received so far (taken in our not-so-atmospheric office).

There are some interesting details on a couple of these cases, and they will really help to create a busy station atmosphere in Station Hall.

If you have any similar items that you would like to donate, then we’d love to hear from you.  If your luggage has a fantastic story to go with it, then even better.

You can contact me via this blog. One thing you should know—any items that are donated will not be made part of the collection, and will be used as display props only. One last thing, please don’t just turn up at the door with them! If you contact us in advance then we can make sure somebody will be able to receive the items, and complete a bit of paperwork.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a proper blog post without at least one image from our collection.

I have a sneaking suspicion that these London & North Western Railway staff wouldn’t be quite so careful with the luggage when the camera wasn’t around.

  1. We have a wicker and canvas trunk with two Southern Ralway Luggage in Advance labels to Sutton and Wallington. The trunk is in poor conditon but we thought it mght be of interest to someone and so saved it rather than throw it away. I can send photographs if required for anyone interested in havng it.

  2. Does anyone know where the refreshment trolley photograph on the main page was taken?
