Visit Locomotion in Shildon next week (from 11–17 December) as we, along with more than 350 National Lottery-funded heritage attractions across the UK will be offering a treat for National Lottery ticket holders as a way of saying ‘thank you’ this Christmas.
We’ll be offering a free tote bag to all lottery ticket holders and the chance to compete for other prizes to say thank you for helping fund objects, exhibitions and galleries.
Locomotion is part of the Science Museum Group which since 1995 has received more than £65m in funding from Heritage Lottery Fund.
At Locomotion we’ll be running a competition from 11-17 December where you could win the grand prize of a free tour of the iconic Flying Scotsman or a runner-up prize.
Based in the National Railway Museum, Flying Scotsman is one of the UK’s best-known global ambassadors and a beneficiary of Heritage Lottery Fund generosity.
Steps to enter the #ThanksToYou competition:
1. Present your lottery ticket in either paper or digital form on arrival at Locomotion for a free Locomotion tote bag (while stocks last)
2. Take a selfie with your tote bag
3. Tag @locomotionshd as the location and add the hashtag #ThanksToYou
4. Share your selfie on Instagram or Twitter to enter a competition to win a tour of Locomotion with a curator and two single tickets for a steam train ride, a tour of the workshop and Royal Train or the grand prize of a tour on Flying Scotsman with champagne afternoon tea on the award-winning Countess of York. Terms and conditions apply.
Locomotion – a HLF-funded museum
At Locomotion, Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) players have helped to fund the construction of the museum’s Collection Building. Opened in 2004, the Collection Building is home to amazing objects, exhibitions and vehicles from the National Collection and it regularly welcomes over 200,000 visitors per year.
Cultural venue in Shildon
The construction of the Collection Building has re-established Shildon as a venue to be visited and plays a key role in the local economy with its vibrant place in the rail industry and rail heritage assured. Now, in 2017 Locomotion has welcomed Tim Peake’s spacecraft to the museum where visitors can explore the incredible Soyuz capsule up close.
Iconic locomotives
Key objects displayed in the Collection Building explore decades of innovation in locomotive design from the original Sans Pareil built in 1829 to the North Eastern No.1, a pioneering electric loco from 1904 and to the Advanced Passenger Train (APT-E) developed in the 1970s that heralded a new era of rail travel in Britain.
It is no exaggeration to say that lottery players, through the HLF, have played an essential role in the creation of Locomotion and on behalf of everyone at the museum – thank you for your support.
